DESCRIPTION:Join the Deschutes County Historical Society as we celebrate the 46th Birthday of the Deschutes Historical Museum AND the 250th Anniversary of our nation’s independence! \nThe museum will be open all day with free admission. Visitors will be treated with frozen treats\, games\, and a look at the entries of our newest event\, “History Bricks!”\nThis is the best opportunity to see the new exhibit\, “The Moments that Made US.” Explore important moments in Oregon and Central Oregon history that shaped our identity and set us apart.\nThis exhibit follows the history of how the United States acquired and shaped Oregon. It is a timeline driven by exploration\, diplomacy\, and the mass migration of settlers\, among other events.

DESCRIPTION:History Bricks\n\nIts LEGO™ meets history this July 4th as we celebrate America’s 250th by exploring historic landmarks of Deschutes County.\nWe are inviting community members to explore\, learn about\, and recreate the distinctive architectural landscape of historic Deschutes County. Participants will learn about the origins of our historic landmarks\, the people and places behind them\, and artistically recreate them with Lego/Duplo or other comparable brick art. The Deschutes County Museum will be a place for the community to gather and showcase the original works in an exhibit\, bridging past and present in a unique way that celebrates our cultural heritage and brings people together. \nThe challenge:\nRecreate a historic landmark in LEGO™\nThe place:\nDeschutes Historical Museum\nWhen:\nJuly 4 – July 11\, 2026\nCategories:\nKids 12 and under and Big Kids 13 to 100 \nCompete Rules here: History Bricks 2026 \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nGet inspired by searching our collection here. \nSearch Historic Landmarks via Storymap here. \nHistory Bricks Rules: \nUsing Lego bricks\, create a display of a recognizable historic landmark in the county. \n\nAll creations must be built ahead of time with your own LEGO\, DUPLO\, or similar blocks. Deschutes Historical Museum does not provide the Legos and building does not take place on site.\nEntries must be on a solid base for transporting and must not be larger than 24” x 24”.\nNo additional materials\, such as tape or glue\, are permitted.\nAll entries must depict or be inspired by historical sites located in Deschutes County. The use of designs from Lego kits is not permitted.\nAn entry form must be submitted for each original creation\, and the design must be built by the participant(s) listed on the entry form. Entry forms will be filled out on site at time of delivery.\nCreations will be delivered to the Deschutes Historical Museum July 3 for a one-week display starting July 4\, 2026\, and ending July 11\, 2026.\n\nJudging:  \nJudging will be a community vote during the week in which they are displayed at the museum. Results will be tallied and announced on July 11th. \nThere will be one museum staff choice certificate awarded to the most historically accurate build across both categories. \nCategories:  \nAll ages are encouraged to enter in two categories: Participants 12 and under or 13 and up. \nPrizes: \nOld Mill Gift Certificates and more await the winner of each category.
